I have put up a number of what I thought were provocative posts lately and I can see from the stats that people have been reading them. What puzzles me is that people haven't been leaving comments. Is it that they just aren't provocative enough? I would have thought that calling Nigel Kennedy a blowhard who is just wrong about Bach might have garnered some push back. Or saying that Schumann really couldn't handle longer musical forms. Or saying that the music of the atonal period was unrelentingly dreary. Or that Stravinsky was cold and a deceptive self-promoter. Are my arguments just that good? Please, readers, don't let me get a swelled head: if you disagree, say so. My feelings won't be hurt. I like a good conversation. While I try to present the evidence for my views, that isn't always easy without sometimes getting into technicalities I would sooner avoid in a blog. But I can't always be right. I did get a good correction about recording technology, thanks for that. But don't be shy about posting a comment.
Thanks in advance. And as an enticement, here is a lovely piece of music:
